The Museo Casa Natal Picasso was originally established under the name Fundación Pablo Ruiz Picasso by an agreement of the Málaga City Council on February 26, 1988. It was created as an Autonomous Municipal Organization with the mission of studying and promoting the work and legacy of the artist.
Pablo Picasso’s birthplace, located at No. 15 Plaza de la Merced in Málaga, was declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument on March 25, 1983. On February 20, 1991, the Ministry of Culture incorporated the Museo Casa Natal Picasso into the Spanish Museum System. On February 6, 2013, the museum was registered in the Registro de Museos de Andalucía.
Objectives of the Public Agency:
a) To honor, study, research, enhance, disseminate, and preserve the work and legacy of the internationally renowned Málaga-born artist Pablo Ruiz Picasso and his world, enriching our cultural heritage in this respect. This includes activities related to the artist, particularly those aspects that connect him to our city.
b) To manage Picasso's birthplace, located at No. 15 Plaza de la Merced.
c) To plan and manage municipal museum facilities that lack their own management systems or contractual frameworks, and for which management has been entrusted to this organization. The agency may also manage other cultural facilities that have a special relationship with the museum's sphere, as decided.
Since its inception, the Museo Casa Natal Picasso has gathered nearly 7,000 works of art by over 200 different artists, organized into 14 collections.
