Museo Casa Natal Picasso unveiled Hidden Jungle, a new collection by Chinese artist Chen Chunmu, recipient of a grant from the Fundación Mecenas of Casa Natal Picasso. The exhibition showcases a series of works that reflect the rich and diverse tradition of Chinese painting, deeply influenced by the spiritual and philosophical heritage of the artist’s culture.

Born in Quanzhou, China in 1981, Chen Chunmu now lives and works in Beijing. His work has been exhibited in numerous galleries across China and is featured in a number of significant collections. Hidden Jungle will be on display at the Casa Natal Picasso, as well as the Colección del Museo Ruso and the Centre Pompidou Málaga.

Influenced by Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism, Chen’s art is defined by a search for spiritual essence through depictions of nature, with landscapes as a central theme. His use of organic, flowing forms evokes an intimate connection between humanity and the natural world. His paintings, often featuring decaying organisms, prompt reflection on the fragility of life and the uncertainty of progress.

Thanks to the Fundación Mecenas of Casa Natal Picasso, Chen has spent several weeks in Málaga, where he has discovered and reflected on landscapes vastly different from those in his native China. Yet, he has also found a profound ancestral connection with the land.
